THE ART OF FINE PIANO RESTORATION

At Al Oliver & Son Pianos, our expert technicians will personally evaluate each piano before carefully dissembling and rebuilding all parts in need of replacement.

Structural components, which are most prone to failure, such as soundboard and pinblock, are individually reconstructed, using only our finest air-seasoned music-grade quality maple and spruce. Components are then custom-milled and assembled in our workshop for optimum quality and craftsmanship.

In order to maintain the original dimensions and specifications of fine pianos, each wooden element is sized with our precision measuring tools, before being hand-fitted to the instrument.

Strictly adhering to classic design standards, our technicians meticulously preserve the geometry of the original action, by using only customized parts when restoring the action mechanism and keyboard of vintage pianos.

During the restoration process, full consideration is given to each distinguishing characteristic of the piano, in addition to following the specific requirements of its owner. our artisans will strikingly refinish iron plating with bronze lacquer; nickel plate and polish existing duplex scales; apply quality moisture-resistant varnish to soundboard and pinblock to withstand fluctuations in humidity; restring with the finest quality music wire; install premium tuning pins; replace worn string rests with felt-covered alternates; restore precise musical pitch with incremental tunings; regulate and voice each instrument according to individual specifications.
